Keto diet
How it works
The ketogenic diet is a high fat and low carb diet. It lowers blood sugar and shifts the body’s metabolism away from carbs and toward fat and ketones. Like that it will burn the stored excess fat instead of the carbs from the just eaten meal.
There are different types of keto diets, however the SKD is the most reserched and recommended.
Standard ketogenic diet (SKD): Low carb (10%), moderate protein (20%), high fat (70%).
Cyclical ketogenic diet (CKD): This method recommends five ketogenic days and two high carb days.
Targeted ketogenic diet (TKD): This method recommends eating carbs only around workouts.
High protein ketogenic diet: Low carb (5%), moderate protein (35%) and high fat (60%).

Weight loss
It is prooven that you can lose even more weight with a keto diet as with a lowfat diet. In addition the keto diet will fill your stomache for longer hence you have to eat less and don't have to keep track of your calories.
Other benefits
The keto diet may also reduce blood sugar levels and reduce the risk for many diseases.
The downside
There are many foods you wont be able to consume or you'll have to heavily reduce during this diet. For example: whole grain foods, fruit, beans, root vegetables, alcohols, unhealthy fats (check out Macros to expand your knowledge around fats) and diet foods.
Conclusion
There are also many foods you can and should eat. Like meat, fatty fish (salmon, tuna...), eggs, butter and cream, cheese (unprocessed ones like mozzarella, cheddar...), nuts and seeds, healthy oils, avocado and low carb vegetables (salads, tomatos, oniens, peppers...).
The keto diet is perfect for people who are overweight and less suitable for athletes who don't want to lose muscle mass.

Intermittent fasting
How it works
With the intermittent fasting diet it is not about what you eat but when you eat it. That is why it is more of an eating pattern than a diet.
With intermittent fasting you will lose weight more easily since your eating periods are not that long. However you shouldn't overeat in theese periodes or else the weight loss wont show as fast.
There are different methods of intermittent fasting:
The 16/8 method: The number 16 stands for 16 hours of fasting and the number 8 stands for 8 hours of eating period. A possibility would be to stop eating at 8pm and start eating at 12pm. Like that you would skip breakfast and get the numbers right.
The eat-stop-eat method: You include a 24-hour fast once or twice a week. On remaining days you eat as usual.
The 5:2 diet: You lower your daily calorie intake to 500 calories for two days. On remaining days you eat as usual.
The Warrior Diet: You eat a big meal at night and during the day only small amounts of raw vegetables and fruits.
Weight loss
This diet increases your metabolic rate and lets you lose weight in a short time period, while you wont lose any muscle mass.
Other benefits
With intermittent fasting you will also improve your cellular repair and reduce blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
The downside
If you are sensitive to low blood sugar you should be careful with this diet.
Conclusion
If you start with the 16:8 method intermittent fasting is a very safe and efficent diet. Be careful with the other methods and start experimenting with them when your body is used to fast for 16 hours.
Vegan diet
How it works
The vegan diet renounses all sorts of animal products. That means you cannot consume meat, eggs, dairy, honey, gelatine, whey and many more. Not only is it better for the environment but also for your health.
Weight loss
With the vegan diet you can lose a lot of weight without counting calories. Reason herefor the lowfat and high fiber products that will keep you full for longer. Since vegan products are usually low in calories you will lose weight automatically.
Other benefits
Plant based diets may help reduce the risk for heart diseases, premature death and type 2 diabetes.
The downside
Because this diet eliminates all sorts of animal products you may lack some essential nutritions and vitamins. You would have to add them by pills.

Conclusion
If you have the right supplements the vegan diet is a healthy way to lose weight. However it may be very time consuming since you'll have to get to know new products and cook different recepies as you usually would.
